Went and picked up a new license for the year and a new reel for my son, so of course we had to go test the new gear. Since newly moved back to Seattle for a couple months, we decided to head to Green Lake for a few casts. Especially after hearing that they had just stocked it the day before.
Conditions were cool and overcast. Some wind, but it laid down to create calm conditions. Another father and his younger son were there ahead of us and had landed a nice fat 15" triploid,so the prospects were pretty good.
I'm not a big bait person, although I do carry a can of power bait wtih me in case absolutely nothing else works. Started with a silver/gold spoon on the son's setup and I with a #3 Blue Fox. Got a few follows on the Blue Fox, but I think it was just too large of a profile for them to commit. Dug around the bag and actually found a 1/6oz Rooster Tail, so I tied that on. About 10 minutes later...first fish of the year comes and it's a 10" planter. It was released to grow up.
Nothing for about the next hour. Couple more people arrive, including another WALakes member. (Can't remember your name already, my apologies). Must have been good luck though because 20 minutes later, the fish in the picture was captured on the same Rooster Tail. I probably should have gotten a gut shot of this thing because the picture doesn't reflect how thick he was. Very healthy and nice colors honestly.
Son was getting hungry and maybe a little frustrated. But he wants back at it tomorrow. So tomorrow it is. Tight lines
Edit : Sorry if this is upside down. I can't get it to rotate and re-upload
