Today was the 1st day out on the water with the boat after the long winter. Always makes me nervous when I turn that key for the first time.... But all is well. Motor started after a couple of seconds to get the fuel through the lines.
Now onto the water. Since it's a Sat, there were quite a few boats out on the water. My first cast was right at about 10AM. Throwing spinners and plastics. Water temp ranged from 53-56 degrees. I saw a few spots hit 57 by late afternoon.
Anyways, a big fat ZERO for bass. No bites, no follows. No signs. But while fishing for bass, I saw lots of trout. Big ones too. 16-17" trouts. Several were schooling together. After a couple of hours of no sign of bass, I busted out the trout rod. Used inline spinners, spoons, jigheads and rapala minnows. I landed 1 trout. Lost 2. Missed a couple. The 2 that got away were good sized ones too.
I saw a nice trout swimming around with a leader attached to it. At the end of the leader, looks like a leaf or something. Tried to get it to bite, but wouldn't commit. Keep looking at my offerings and turning away.
So zero stars for bass, but 3 stars for trout.
I know the image doesn't make this trout look that big, but it's just shy of 17". Kept flopping around when I would try to line up with the tape. Flopped out of the net and had to grab it by hand. When I threw it back, it was a floater for a second or 2, then swam away. I think it stunned itself flopping around, :o
