This is April 27th, and I fished the lake today. This year, the 27th is opening day of the general season. I had to work this Saturday, nearby, and I went by the lake first thing in the morning on my way to work. The lake was spangled with fishing rigs like glitter beads on a birthday cake. It was also quite windy. After work, the wind settled down and I decided to give it a try. There were only about a half dozen boats on the lake, and the other 30 or so rigs were belly boats, float tubes and pontoons. Mine was one of the pontoons. Shore fishing bait chuckers were abundant, and catching most of the fish. They were running from 8" to 12", and some were Tiger Trout. By the time I got to the lake, the fish all had a belly full of bubble-gum colored glop, and the fly fishing success was almost null. I got skunked with a #16 midge, (even though I saw midges), #16 pheasant tail, and a #10 copper bead head orange flashabou wooly bugger. I fished all my flies with a dead drift troll, just under the surface, and near the bottom. I also fished my flies with a one inch at a time twitch, on the surface and up from the bottom. I think it can be a really good lake to fish with more expertise than mine, and a lot less fishing pressure. On my next trip, I'm going somewhere else.
