So let me just start off this report by saying this. I'm well aware that Log Boom Park is no secret to anybody. The only reason I cropped the background out of the photo on my last report was because I wanted people to share my excitement by watching the video to see where I was. With that being said, there will be no cropping in the photos I post today.
Today was beyond a 5 star day for me. It's not just because I caught 4 Largemouth Bass in just a couple of hours. It's because I managed to catch my New Personal Best Bass today! As if that wasn't already enough, I managed to accomplish my goal for the entire year on the second day that I caught bass! My goal was to catch a 6+ lber and be able to post on the 2012 Trophy Bass section of the forums. My personal best last year was a 5 lb 10 oz bass. I would have been ecstatic just to crack 6 lb 0 oz. Well, are you ready for this?
I CAUGHT A SEVEN POUND TWO OUNCE LARGEMOUTH BASS!
Last year, as you guys may already know if you ready my report, I lost an absolute giant at Log Boom Park. I was guesstimating it to be 6 - 7 + lbs. I only had a rod with 8 lb fluorocarbon rigged up and my line snapped flipping it the dock.
I encountered that very same nightmare today! I switched from my rod with 50 lb Power Pro to my other rod with 8 lb Berkley Big Game Monofilament to fish a more finesse technique. I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to keep that finesse technique under the wraps for now. But I started casting around the general area. I casted near the submerged logs, trees, docks, and even made some random fan casts out in the middle of nowhere.
I then decided to cast under the dock again and had no idea what I was in for. I set the hook and immediately my rod has a massive bow in it, my drag is going off and I feel the weight of a beast! As soon as I see the fish, my heart that was already beating a hundred miles an hour went into overdrive! I start freaking out because I'm scared of the same thing happening as last year with my line snapping. So I drag the fish all the way around the portion of the dock with the high railing.
Luckily for me, I had 2 people there who were willing to help me out! One person held my rod for me as I got down on my chest, grabbed hold of the dock, and put my body over the edge to try and lip this fish. I was scared of falling in but another person grabbed one of my belt loops on my shorts to keep me from falling in. The bass is just out of my reach and I inch a bit closer and after a few attempts, I get a solid grip on the lower jaw and pull it up! SUCCESS!
My immediate thoughts upon seeing the fish was that it was easily a 5+ lb fish at the very minimum. I run over to grab my digital scale and I am in for one of the biggest surprises of my life when I see the results. The scale went bounced between 7 - 1 and 7 - 3 and stopped at about 7 - 2. I had a small crowd of people who witnessed me weighing the fish on the scale. No funny business here. This fish was an absolute BEAST! Even after releasing the fish, my body was shaking for a good 30 minutes. I could not believe what just happened and was so happy I probably could have almost cried a single tear of joy! She was definitely a pregnant female that was full of eggs and almost ready to pop! She had a huge gut!
Anyways, now that the main story is out of the way I will finish up this report. When I first got to Log Boom, I saw a couple of people fishing and was happy that the dock wasn't full of people. On the very first cast, I hooked into a bass and weighed it up on my digital scale. My scale put it at 1 lb 10 oz. This fish was MUCH smaller than the fish I caught yesterday and estimated to be maybe 2 lbs. With that being said, I am now certain that my first fish was easily near 3.5 lbs while the second fish has to be a good 2.5 lbs at least.
The 7 lb 2 oz bass was my second fish.
My third fish was a 3 lb 13 oz chunk! It was thick and had a nice gut! Unfortunately, my hatcam was off for the first half of the fight when this fish was going absolutely bananas and peeling out drag! I managed to catch the last few seconds of it in the water while bringing it up. The fish fought ultra hard and it was super fun to fight! I was estimating it to be about 4 lbs. I was 3 oz off :D
My 4th fish was a 1 lb 8 oz bass that fought deceivingly hard! It may have been small but it had the heart of a pig. I accidentally deleted the footage of this as I was deleting clips to clear up some space on my SD Card.
So to sum it up, I caught 4 bass today! 1 of them was a trophy! 1 of them was almost 4 lbs! and 2 of them were about 1.5 lbs! Definitely a 5 star day!
Here is a link to the video of the 7 lb 2 oz Bass! I will post a video of the 1-10 and 3-13 later!
