Went out and only caught on. not to sure what it was but was only about 8 inches long. I was fishing from shore. I plan on taking the boat out, but I am new to the trout fishing. What are you guys using that is working so well? If to guys could give me some pointers I would appreciate it.

Your fish might have been a rock bass. Read the reports for American lake kokanee and trout. Some have pictures on what worked.

Right now the thing that is just really getting the fish that are all over 14" is using a bobber set at about 4 feet and just a worm. Sounds primitive but people are getting limits daily with this method. If you have anymore questions let me know. From a boat using a Apex lure is what is really getting them.

I'm not sure what an apex lure is, but I'll have to research that. About how deep are you using the apex lure? And is the lake doing good all over?

The Lake is doing well all over. Best action is in the top ten feet of the water. If you are dock fishing you should try the method Mike@Bills recommended. Use a 2-4 lb leader of fluorocarbon 4 ft long under a bobber. Use the smallest hook you have and try a worm, power bait (chartreuse) or both (meaning a little of both on one hook). Right now people are catching their limits of trout with that set up. If you get bored of catching trout ask Mike@Bills Boat House about Kokanee Fishing.

the apex is kinda like a flat fish. i use the ones marketed for kokanee because the hooks are much smaller, red, and two of them. Most the trout have been at 15ft on the downrigger, also the apex works best behind a slingblade dodger i found. it comes pretied with about a 3ft leader
