Wanted to hit an opener so my wife's first fishing expedition of the year was to Ohop. I was thinking that I might hit it at a good time with nobody fishing it and the little plants in there...
Did not work out as the water was a little colder than I thought it would be. Ranged from 54 to 57, or so. Spinnerbaits did nothing. Fished jigs hard and slow and managed to land 3 little fish. My wife lost one that she did not know was on. This was her first day ever of jig fishing. I told her that if she wants to fish with me then she had better learn how to fish jigs, lol, I am so mean.
All the fish but one just picked the jig up and swam with it. I set the hook on line movement on every fish but one. That one was the last bite that we had. I was trying to show her how my line just starts moving and it cost me. I felt the fish pick it up and told her that's a bite, then my line started going sideways. I just watched it trying to let her see. The fish took it 6 or 8 feet and then spit it out.
We ended our day on that note.
Lot's of boats, of course, for the opener. I only seen one other bass fisherman out there who was at the far NE end by the time that we got there. He said he had not had a bite or even seen a fish. I said the docks seem to be paying off.
Later, we talked to another boat who said that he seen that guy catch and release a "nice fat bass" off a dock next to them.
