Wanted to avoid opening day crowds and busy launch ramps so fished Sunday 11am-5pm. Had a blast. The weather was brisk but tolerable. Wind on an off with moments of glassy calm. Certainly was beautiful with heavy fog clouds high on the surrounding hills and green treed reflections in the water. The sun came out occasionally later in the afternoon.
The three of us trolled and plugged for trout. Water temperatures ranged from 56.5 to 57.2. Had the best luck in the lagoon. Saw many trout including a real hog that ran at our spoons several times. P. boated and released four. K. two and me none, but I was the one who had the real big one chase the lure and get our excitement level up. P. set the hook on one and his rod doubled down and then the hook pulled out and about knocked K out of the boat. Lots of laughs and a good barbecue lunch to boot.
Spoons in silver were the lure of most interest to the fish. We also netted a huge rainbow for a guy on shore who had not brought a net and hooked into an 18", really thick one. In turn he held our boat while we stood precariously on the gunnel trying to free the favored lure of the day from a high tree limb. Camaraderie all around.
