Cindy and I decided to make a trip up to Palmer Lake, and got to the launch area around 11:45. It was raining pretty hard, so we sat in the parking lot waitng to see if it would slack up a bit. As we were watching the lake, a small boat was trolling in to take out. They hooked up as they were nearing the shorline. Looked to be a noce Kokanee, and Cindy said "There's hungry fish out there, and we need to get on the water". So when the two wet, but successful, fishermen got their boat loaded and moved out of the way, we launched for a bit of rainy day trolling. We ran a Mepps Cyclops spoon flat line, and a wedding ring off the down rigger. It seemed silver or bright colors were the favored colors for us. We limited out in about 2 1/2 hours with the largest Kokanee being right at 14 inches. All the Kokanee were rather slim, so not much weight. After keeping a limit of Kokanee, we motored up to the upper end to try for some perch before calling it a day. We ended up keeping 6 Perch (up to 9 inches) and two crappie. The crappie were 11 inches and 13 1/4 inches. Caught several smaller perch and crappie, but by this time it was breezy and cool, so we called it a day. It rained hard enough that the bilge pump kicked on a couple of times, and when the rain and clouds cleared, there was fresh snow on the peaks. Thank you Phil. we find it an excellent place to chill for a day. The scenerie is second to none, and the oportunity to watch wildlife is great. The size of the silvers is a little disappointing this year but then it's not all about the catching. LOL, but we will make this lake an annual spring outing just because of the beauty of the place. You and Debbie take care and stay well..

Hello AFK, LOL, The only "Trippin" I'd be doing is right out of the boat probably. LOL Naw, The derby fishing just doesn't do anything for us, so we'll be cheering from the sidelines. I think it's a great cause, and enjoy following the results and excitment of those who do participate though. and there looks to be some great incentive prizes going to be offered. Lewis, were you fishing Lake Chelan on Opening weekend of the general Trout season? Would have been 4/28 or 29th. I caught a glimpse of a boat similar to yours fishing near the hwy that travels from Chelan to Manson. I was driving on the hwy at the time. Must have been deep there, because the boat was trolling with down riggers and very close to rock wall the roadway is built on. It was in the rock slid area, if that makes any sense. Those crappie look to be of good size!

Awesome report! Can't wait to get up this Memorial Day weekend to fish the flooded willows for some monster bass!! Wish the Koks were bigger this year, so may skip on trolling, and focus on the bass. Although, the crappie look decent, and I have not targeted those at Palmer since I was a teenager. What did you use for the Crappie? Simple jig? Worms?

Hi ya kenimes , thanks for the comment. the willows were sure enough flooded, and there was a boat way up in the upper end fishing the weeds. wasn't close enough to see the action though. we used 1/16 oz jig heads with micro plastics by berkly to fish for the panfish, and they were out from the weeds and willows in 8-15 feet of water. fished up in the willows but couldn't get any bites in there. may be to early yet or our tactics were lacking one.
