Fished American Lake again, started North of Silcox Island. Used uv pink dodgers with uv pink mini shrimp, and a homemade pink wedding ring. Started before sunrise flatlining 80ft behind the boat. This morning was slower than yesterday, bite started a little after sunrise. First two on the flatline, the last three on the downrigger, between 47-49 ft deep thirty feet behind the boat. Used shoepeg corn on top hook and pink maggots on the bottom hook. These fish are much better size this year compared to last year. Trolling speed was between 1 -1.2 mph.

Well you are the man. I went the 5th and the 7th and did not get anything but trout. But I did not fish near your hotspots nor as early. Thank you for the report.

ScreamingEagle is my favorite person to fish Kokes with! Cant wait for the Kokanee derby this month buddy!!! On a side not I cant believe how deep the fish are this year already. Last year we never fished below 44ft and had limits under an hour everyday this year totally different story. For people that are reading this report but dont fish American, they are harder to catch this year but man these fish are quality Kokes all the fish are around 15-16 inches and FAT! Nice job yesterday ScreamingEagle.

Last year you could still get a limit after say 8:00AM it just took longer. This year it seems like anything after 8:00 it is really hard to get anything to connect. Still getting surface temp reading of 53 so who knows what might happen when the water warms up a little. The biggest Kokes I have caught this year have been in the evening right before dark so maybe that will work better with your schedule.

Hello Mike, Toni, and Mark. Thank you for the positive feed back! Mark, typically at American Lake the morning bite is best. What I mean by morning is to be on the water with gear down in your target area before the sunrise, preferably before light is even on the horizon. If you cannot make it there in the early morning the best option is the evening. Before sunset the koks metabolism is cranked and they feed right before dark.

Interestingly enough, koks are phytoplankton feeders and will attack mini hoochies and wedding rings out of competition for food and not as a food source. If your having difficulty landing koks at American your not alone. These koks are displaying a significantly different behavior than the koks we caught last year at American. These fish are definitely spooked, and more of a challenge to catch which makes it all the more worthwhile when you land one. Stop by Bills Boat House on American Lake and ask for Mike Barr. He is always willing to share information and has an excellent track record for koks on American. If you like you can also try Meridian Lake in Kent, it has been very an excellent fishery though the koks there are much smaller than at American Lake.
