Given the stable warm trend of May weather, and a recent trip of fair success, my usual walleye partner and I decided on a trip to Banks, since I had a work-schedule change and could therefore go during the week. After a honey-do task in the morning, we hit the lake at about 11 a.m. We dredged a ton of area across Barker Flat, changing depth, color, speed, etc., but only found three walleye - two keepers about 18". So towards the evening, we headed for mid-lake. We were marking fish, and then wham - a double, both about 19". It was getting close to dark, so after one more hang-up, we called it a day. Water temps were mid 60's, to 70 at one place on Barker. Wind was ... nill. This was absolutely the longest glass-calm water I have ever seen at Banks. It probably didn't help the fishing any. We were talking to some nice gentlemen at the ramp when we took out, and noted they only caught one walleye. And the man's name was Mike Hepper, the Washington state walleye record holder. Fine friendly guy. Good luck in the Classic, Mike.
