Got to the water about 7:00am looking for crappie. Started out pretty slow but did catch a nice little Pike on my 10' noddle rod,wow was that fun. We found crappie in back of the bays. I don't know the lake so I cann't tell you the name of the bays but the fish were holding in the shallows where ever we could find shaded water. Ended up with about 20, 7 were over 12' that went home for dinner, the rest went back to grow up. Take you bobber off and toss your jig under trees and brush. Some fish holding around docks but we did better along the shore.

The following bag and possession limits apply to all waters of the Panhandle Region except as modified in
Panhandle Region Special Rule Waters on Pages 7-8.
Tiger Muskie
• Tiger Muskie limit is 2, none under 40 inches
Not to be a wise guy, but, just sayin'

Quadfather please don't tell me there are tiger muskie in Hayden lk. I sort of look back at some of my old pike pics and compared them to this fish( yipes stripes)

Mike there are not supposed to be any in Hayden. I would say that is a young pike because I have also caught young pike in there with stripes on them as well. I also spoke with biologists who were doing some shocking and they assured me there were no Tigers in Hayden.

Mike, I usually don't make comments like I did. Maybe I was wrong to do so. Maybe I even mis-identified the fish? I was just cut/pasting from the Idaho regs. I went with tiger muskie because of the stripes, and because the regs speak to tigers with the 40" minimum. So I assume they are there, otherwise why does the state stipulate the 40"?
Anyway, I really didn't mean to bust the guys chops, but just to make him aware. They are such a cool fish...kinda like to respect them. That being said, I've never even fished for them. Group hug to the angler...and fish onward!

seems everyone wants to stir the pot. Nice catch, I was out last Saturday and got into the crappie as well.

Quadfather, thank yor for your comment. If I screw up I want to know. I have the same respect for the fish as you and if I'd had any idea it was a tiger I'd let it go as soon as it got to the boat. I agree with fishincougar about it being a young pike. I pulled up 2 pics off the internet of young pike with the same markings.

Nice job, that is definitely a Pike, not a Tiger Muskie. You did nothing wrong. And Good on Quadfather trying to let people know regs they may not have known. He just identified the fish wrong, no big deal.

Thanks for the report, i've been eyeing up Hayden for awhile now but wanted to hear some good things first. I miss the warm water bite I used to get living up by Spokane, I'm in the salmon belt down here by Pullman. I'll throw in my 2cents too, I think it's a young pike for sure. Looks like a darn good crappie day too, congrats.
