Took my son to Rapjohn Lake. Between the two of us we caught and released 20 bass. My son caught 11, and I with 9. Most were a pound to 2 1/2 lbs. I caught all but one on a homemade swimbait, while my son stuck to a weightless StickO. He caught most of his close to the bank, while I stuck to casting out into the scattered pads away from the shoreline. The larger ones were caught on the swimbait. We quit about 10:30 because of the increasing wind, and a slowed bite. Anyway, fun morning.

My homemade swimbait I used that day had a blue back and chartreuse belly. I use a 1/4 oz, 4/0 weighted shank hook, rigged Texas style. Most were caught on a slow steady retrieve, though I caught two on the sink.

Dark blue. But there are other colors I've had success with. Rainbow trout, perch, straight chartreuse, and straight white, to name a few.

Yes I did, and I replied. Anyway, I only make it to Rapjohn a couple times a year because I live just south of Seattle. I know the lake and fished it alot because I was raised in the Kapowsin area, fishing many of those local lakes. But I now usually only go there when fishing with my son who lives outside of Eatonville. But it is a nice lake to fish. If anything, just to get away from the crowd and boat traffic. I wish I could tell you there's a magic lure for Rapjohn, but overall its hard to beat a Senco type worm. But I had one day on that lake I couldn't get a bite on a plastic, then started around it again with a buzzbait and it seemed like there was a bass under every lilly pad. Another time I wasn't doing well. It was mid day, bright sun, wind, and I was fishing a spinnerbait. I was at the end of the lake to the right of the boat launch, and I turned around and made a long cast toward the middle of the lake to clear my level wind, and immediately got hit. I did it again, and another bass. To make a long story short, in 45 minutes I caught 26 bass casting out into open water. One time, 6 bass on 6 casts. Have tried it every time I've been out there since, never did it again....Go figure.
