Memorial Day I usually skip fishing, but decided to try Potholes reservoir. Windy, but glad I did. 11 catfish, 9-24 lbs. 4 bass 14, 15, 17, and 22". And a big fat carp. All on bait, all on 4 lb test. I tried identical rigging with 6 lb test to no avail. Light line only, and every battle was long and adrenaline charged! Lind Coulee area. Shallow. Guy at Mardon said it was too early for catfish. Hmmm...

Going through the Yakima river canyon the mayflies were in abundance, in case anyone is interested. So were the cops. One guy blasted past me after tailgating, and they caught him about 3 miles later. Sometimes there is justice!

Nice catch and pics. That must have been some tug-o-war going on. Answer to a previous question fishinChristian, I smoked up some cats from Roses Lake, but Cindy and I didn't care for them. Personally, I didn't enjoy the consistency of the flesh, and the taste wasn't something I'd want to try again. It wasn't Bad, just not to "My" liking. I know folks who like it pretty good, and If I were to experiment with the brine components and the smoking times, it would change the flavor, but Just don't catch that many cats to pursue. Give it a trial smoke, you may come up with a winning combonation. Thanks for shariing the pics and info of your trip

All fish were from the pontoon. All but one released. The only reason I didn't rate it 5 was the wind. It was real work to bait fish in, but WORTH it! GP: I toured sections of the lake I had no plans to visit, so yeah, a real blast!!
Blufin: Thanks. I kind of thought the results would be less than inspiring, but I'm glad you found out. Fried like bluegill fillets, with ALL dark meat/fat removed, catfish is great, but I haven't yet found any other way I like it. The dark meat or fat (anything that isn't white) gives it a mushy consistency and an aftertaste that ruins the meat, for me anyway. There is a gumbo that I had once that was good, but not worth repeating.

When a resident of the area tells you it is not the best time for catching a specific species. And you get into them, that had to by truly satisfying. Looks like you can cover a lot of ground and do some serious exploring with the electric motor. Was the area you were fishing, shallow enough to see the catfish? One picture was of a big ol' Carp, was it not?

Yeah. Mardon is a decent place, but they do miss with info, and when you call, the fish are almost always biting fast and furious, like most resorts. Dependability depends on who is on duty. And usually it does pick up later, but Snake river has plenty of cats that bite even earlier. We usually get 50-100 per night down there, but they average about 3-5 lbs.
The electric is an add-on that all 4 of my pontoons have. The 2-man has twin electrics and a depth finder. You can cover a lot of area. And yes. I debated more catfish pix or bass pix, but the site has lots of those, so... She put up a great fight on ultra-light!
