On Sunday night we decided to hike into Lower Lena Lake. Its relatively easy hike at a little over 3 miles one way.

It took us about 2 hours to hike up the 1200' incline. We passed a lot of people going down as they said it was a wet weekend, but we carried onward passing a few bridges and streams along the way. We first reached a look out point on a huge rock, an awesome view but that's no place to fish so we proceeded to the campground. I read a sign that told us to stay at least 100' downstream of the inlet stream's bridge, so that's what we did. Fishing with small barbless spinners just beyond the line, we were able to catch and release a dozen little brookies, the biggest being 8", wow. They're pretty and Ive never caught them before so I'm happy. The weather held out and it was a pretty nice day.

Wow....what a beautiful lake. Many times with brookies they are stunted and that's as big as they get. Again, beautiful lake!

Ive fished this lake a few times. The biggest brook trout Ive caught was about 14" with a hooked jaw and beautiful colors. I have also caught rainbows and cutthroat too. And there is a good number of crayfish in the lake as well. One of my favorite fishing spots.

Great little lake and pretty easy to get to. The upper lake is cool too. Most of the fish that I have caught in Lena are rather small...That said they cook up really well if they're about 10" or so. If you want BIG fish, hike up to Mildred Lakes. There are some huge fish in those lakes but you have to be in damn good shape to get there. Anyone that has been there will echo that and then some. Tough but worth it. 24" plus cutthroat in those lakes...
