Tested out my new Cumberland (by Classic Accessories) float tube today. Verdict: LOVE IT! My tackle, while not exactly an unknown strategy, isn't the common powerbait, worms, or spinners, so I'd rather not state it :) Anyways, great day fishing and I landed (and released) five trout between 11 and 14 inches from 4:30 pm to 8 pm, although I spent most of the time scouting the whole lake and seeing how my tackle compared to spinners and powerbait. Right around 7 pm is when they started hitting hard.

Went around the edge of the whole lake (in a float tube, remember) and went up and down a few areas. The northwest middle area (left and across from the beach, in between hot spots 1 and 2) and east right up against the docks (right side from the beach, hot spot 3) were the best spots where I was finding fish. A guy on a dock in the NW corner caught a HUGE one while I was nearby, he said four pounds. I'm not sure about that, but it was big. Didn't see people on the public dock catching much -- this lake has been pressured non-stop from there by people using powerbait, worms, and occasionally spinners. My advice would be to avoid using those if you're able to, otherwise cast to a good spot and get ready to wait awhile if you're stuck on the shore.

Related note: I can't for the life of me understand what the WDFW qualifies as "bait" in relation to the limit of five released trout. Can anyone explain what does and doesn't count?

According to the WDFW rules, "bait" is pretty much anything that uses scent and/or flavoring. I've been on a crusade to discover more successful tackle beyond the standards, especially for still fishing. If you PM me your secret method, I sure would appreciate it!

I think it means you can no longer use as what chumknuckle said, which means you would have to employ artificial lures like inline spinners and spoons. Not sure about little crankbaits. They are artificial but the look like bait. There is a WDFW employee that checks out the forums whose name escapes me at this time. Good job! I was planning to hit steel myself yesterday but had an immediate change of plans. And yes, inquiring minds would like to know about your secret tackle. :)
