Is it any surprise that the week before the Cutthroat derby, I would have my best day of the year on Lake Washington? I started around 10:00am dragging a Brad’s Mini Cutplug and targeting the drop-offs along the eastside of the lake. After an hour of no action I switched to a flasher and hoochie setup and employed winter blackmouth tactics, keeping my gear as close to the bottom as possible without fouling the gear. This paid off in spades as I brought 5 fish to the boat and had a takedown that didn’t stick over the next couple of hours. I released all fish to hopefully be caught by a derby entrant this coming Saturday. I had three nice sized fish to go along with a barely legal and one 16”er. The surface temps were in the upper 50’s and the winds were out of the SW for most of the time I was on the water. A quick check of the barometric pressure chart for the past 24 hours showed a fairly steady barometer which I believed contributed to the spectacular bite I experienced. I apologize for the pictures, again they are stills from video that I took during this outing and I’m still trying to refine the setup and process.
