Got there about 9AM. The guy leaving my spot (park benches area) had a limit. the other 3 guys had 5 fish between them. It didn't seem like the pier was hitting either(saw I think maybe 2 fish on @ the pier until I left @ 3PM). A lot of pontoons/rafts/and a canoe with a trolling motor were in the water off and on, but didn't seem to have much luck either. A guy with an RC float plane showed up shortly after I got there provided some entertainment but seemed to kill the bite. Guys started leaving about 11:30 or 12 and rotated in all day.
I had 2 poles with similar setups one on a 2' leader and 3' on the other. #10 red egg hooks halfway down the leader and a #12 gold wire treble on the bottom. I tried both Chartreuse power eggs and Eagle Claw chartreuse/orange eggs, Purple glitter nymph flavored powerbait, yellow salmon flavored powerbait, fluorescent red powerbait, and a pink floating powerbait worm. I didn't get a bite all day.
An older gentlemen I was chatting with limited here in about 2-3 hours using chartreuse power eggs. He had fluorescent red powerbait on as well but they kept getting it off and everything he landed was on the eggs. He had a ton of weight on (like 1 1/2 oz) and it was apparent you needed to get it out there quite a ways. He was also using an attractor scent of unknown origin. After left I moved to his spot and duplicated his setup(minus the 'secret scent'), but couldn't put as much weight as he was using on my light action Damiki rod. I didn't get anything other than a sunburn. Left @ 3PM. 5 1/2 hours without a bite. It seems like the milfoil/grass is growing quite a bit and might be driving the fish out deeper.
Right as I was leaving an older gentlemen and what I'm guessing was his very young grandson showed up and took my original spot and had one on in less than 5 minutes. Where has my trout mojo gone?
