Yesterday I had a few hours to kill in the morning so drove by Angle lake at 6am and the gate was locked so did a few errands and came back at 7am and it was open. Now I have this little 6' boat that fits in the back of my truck so was able to slip in the lake and troll for a couple hours with that absolutely gorgeous day we were blessed with yesterday! fishing was not so good but as soon as I switched my gear to pink hoochies with the watermelon dodger on one and a pink spatter back on the other, tipped wtih pink maggots I was able to hook into a couple nice kokanee's, 9" and 11" ( sorry no pics as I forgot the camera)
Well today got home and since this lake is only 5 minutes from my house decided to give it another go~ but the weather wasn't as pleasant as yesterday so opted to take out the "tin cup" which is my 16' smokercraft. I set up one long line and 1 rod for the downrigger; using an ounce and quarter of weight on the long line- I set it up with Toni's bloody mary wanna-fish-a-lure tipped with pink gulp maggots and the other on the rigger with a watermelon dodger and an orange hoochie also tipped with pink maggots. It didn't take me long to realize they must have planted today because I could hardly get 2 lines in the water before one would pop! but alas, they were all rainbows and I was really after kokanees. Finally I notice the rod on the downrigger bouncing differently and played in my first kokanee of the evening. I had about 3 or 4 long line releases that I was sure were kokanees before I got my 5th fish that had to be kept so called it a night; plus the wind was getting pretty hard to navigate wihen you are by yourself out there. I was running the downrigger between 30 and 35 feet and about 35 pulls on the long line. I will be out there again tomorrow if it is not too windy and by the way, the rainbows had surprisingly pink meat when I cleaned them and made for a nice pan fried in cornmeal, onions and butter meal for my daughter and myself ( the wife is out of town so lots of fishing this week!! haha) see you on the water!!
