We camped at Tacoma Power's Mayfield Park, choosing a site that allowed us to put the boat right next to the campsite. We had had a great evening the night before with a good dinner and beautiful sunset. The morning brought us a surprise: the lake really does drop two to four feet! We had received notification that this was a possibility but decided that we'd be OK. Wrong. Dan woke up about six and told me not to bother getting up because the boat was sitting high and dry. A little hard to get back to sleep, so I got up and inspected what was obvious from the pop-up trailer. The short version of this was that we noticed that the level was slowly rising (good news!). We had breakfast and played cards until about noon, when the water level was back up enough to muscle the boat back onto the lake. After lunch we motored back down to the boat launch and started fishing down towards the bridge. We no sooner had started then Dave had one on. A nice 14" rainbow with healed adipose. We continued towards the bridge just a short ways and Dave caught another rainbow (11"). He wanted to head back to where he had caught the larger one (very close to the boat launch) and so we did. Nothing. We trolled back and forth in that area for awhile longer and decided to go try Riffe.

Would It be very good fishing to drop a line from your campground?

It turns out that it's very low water until you get about 40-50 yards out. We saw some people trolling by at that distance from shore, but we never marked any fish there. It would have been nice to have been able to fish from shore while we were waiting for the water to raise up, but we can't cast that far... and playing cards was kind of a nice break.
