My wife and I hit the water and lines down at 6:15am. We ran four rigs off two downriggers, staggering depth from 25-55 feet. Conditions were calm, very pleasant morning on the water. There were around a a half dozen or so boats and except for one boat, it looked like we were all struggling. The one boat had two older guys and (according to them) limits by 8am. I did see them catch six fish, including a triple. And no, he wouldn't tell me what he was doing different from the rest of us, just that "we have a lot of experience on this lake". That's fine, gave me incentive to fish harder.

After they left, we did hit two small koks, at 25 ft and 40 ft. Both came off at the net. Fiesty little buggers! I was switching up gear constantly - they came on variations of greens and pink hoochie type rigs, with small dodgers.

Our keeper fish came at 40 and 45 ft, each about 12". We learned to bring them in slow and that really helped. After the last fish at 10am things went dead. We came in at 11:30. BTW, trolling north of the aerators about 50 yards I snagged something midwater, 55 ft down. I was lucky to get my gear and DR ball back. Caution is advised!

Can't wait for the next kok trip. :-)

Mike you know there is a big pipe that goes all the way to land from the aerator? Greg at Gregs custom rods told us about it when we went up to check things out for the Kokanee derby. Funny thing is no map on the internet of the lake shows anything about it and we would have lost gear if Gregg didnt say something. Maybe someone good with maps could figure out how to let people know about this. Maybe you are talking about something else not sure as the direction of the lake.

I always wondered what the heck that was. I always see it on my fish finder every time I troll over it. Gotta get that gear up quick!

That would be the power cable to the aerator its about 40ft down. There use to be a buoy marking it. I get that a lot from guys not wanting to share what there doing.

Thanks for the report Mike, I am taking a client ( a work client- I am not a guide~haha) on Saturday morning and have never fished this lake. I am going to study the topo map and brush up on earlier reports to help figure out what to do.

well, thanks all, I now know when to change course! Yes Toni, I am learning. Hey, I've got two nice practically new Shakespere kokanee rods I'll be selling at the swap meet all. I upgraded to the Okuma SSTs. I just can't help myself...

BTW, John of RottenChum guide service was very helpful about fishing Stevens. Give him a call if you want to get guided properly on this lake (shame-less web owner plug) :-)
