Hit Curlew again for the second time in a month. Fished with my wife, Doug W, and his son. It is beautiful out there. We seen a ton of wildlife, and all the Muskie you could want. Problem was catching them them though... Friday evening and Saturday we hit it hard only to get a handful of small bass that had no business hitting our Muskie lures. We seen 5 fish each day including some rolling really hard, and others coming up and gulping air and diving back down with their backs out of the water like a whale. Crazy. Didn't have on sniff a lure until the wife had a real nice follow by a mid forties fish at sunset Saturday.
Hit the same spots Sunday morning and found them empty, so we moved and changed tactics. We found the fish that's for sure! In 3 hours Sunday afternoon we seen no less than 17 Muskies! I have never before this weekend seen a Tiger porpoise. As soon as we hit our new spot we were gonna try, a HUGE tiger head comes out of the water and porpoises for about 20 yards. We moved towards it casting along the way and got the only Tiger we were able to put in the boat. It was not the same fish but it was a healthy 41.5x21, my PB by half an inch. Its weight estimates at 25lbs. From then on we had 3 more good follows by some BIG girls, and just continued seeing BIGGG fish cruising all over under, and around us porpoising.
I wish we had taken video. We had one fish come to the surface about 10 yards from the boat and come straight at us. It got a little less than 10 feet away and turned and swam parallel with the boat. You could clearly see the Tiger stripes on the gill plates and her eyes as she swam by. Awesome. This happened all afternoon. What a show! If your not going to catch many Muskie it's sure fun to feel like your boat is sitting on a small aquarium! Good times, I cant wait to get back there!
