Hit the waters early today. I have refined my chum mix with a few extras, these last two times out I’m starting to get a little more action. I have also decided to fish with the bail open, until I can get a bait runner reel.
Today I had three takers. The first one was timid and I to ancy; I set the hook too soon. The second, my drag was set improperly. He took the bait and started ripping off line; I closed the bail and set the hook. He just proceeded to keep swimming towards the shore. I could not move him with my rod at all, stretched my line and broke it. (Lesson learned). The third took the bait and started ripping off line, he headed perpendicular from the dock, I set hook and began to reel, I saw him surface briefly before he shook the hook. Upon my retrieval I was left with a scale. Although I didn't catch any the fighting was fun = 3 stars.
In addition, I also got to meet jd123. It’s nice to actually meet some of the people on these boards and put a face to some of these tags. I’ll be seeing you out there jd123. Hopefully one of us brings one of these bad boys up soon.
Just in case you’re curious I am fishing with a Med rod, 12 lb line, using a hair rig, using 30lb braided, with a # six hook.
