Been trying to go out fishing for the last 3 days, but work has been pretty busy. I finally put my foot down and headed for the west canal off Lake Union. Took my son with me in hopes he would get his first smallie, but it didn't happen for him. I, on the other hand, got a pretty good fish.

Roughly around 8:30pm as the sun was setting and we were walking back west from close to the Fremont bridge back to the car. I decided to stop at a few places that we worked earlier on in hopes I would get a hit.

First two spots didn't pan out. I did have a couple of small followers, but no commitments from them. Last spot before the car....first cast....oh my...that's a real smallie. There is no mistaking if it's on. It tries to take the pole from you hand. And then doesn't stop even after you've landed it. Barely swung it onto the bank and the hook popped. Got my hands on it just before it flopped back into the water and my son took the photo shown. He doesn't stay still, sorry. It's a little blurry. I wasn't going to wait for him to get the perfect picture, I wanted to get it back into the water.

It's VERY evident that they are feeding very well. This fish's belly was packed. I would put this fish in the 2-2.5lbs class. I don't carry a scale because most of the time, I just don't care. Very next cast I catch one a bit over a pound. Again with a packed belly. Very happy to see them with the feed bag on even at this time of the year.

Gonna have to say, I like the smallies. Especially being so close to home and having a lot of water that's accessible from shore.
