I doubt it was you. The weed control methods used in both Campbell and Erie lakes have all but eliminated Bass, Perch, Crappie and Bluegill in the two lakes. I have been fishing the two lakes since the 80's for Bass and Perch and never left skunked from 1980-2011. I could brass and glass Bass in the middle of winter with ice on the lake. A normal day was several dozen 1-3 lb largemouth with 1 in 20 being over 5 lbs. Since 2011 I am 0 for about 200 hours. I try periodically just to verify they are in fact gone and get an affirmation each time. Anyone who knows Campbell well, knows the spawn bed count on that lake in late spring was staggering, with beds being spaced about 3 feet apart all the way around the lake. Now you will seldom find any evidence of beds. I have tried heading out to deeper water using every technique in the bag and come up empty handed. So if they are there, they have not only changed their breeding and depth holding habits, but their eating habits as well. In speaking with the company employed to do the weed control and also the game dept., they seem to view bass and perch in these lakes as being "illegally stocked". So I don't think there are any thoughts of management of the species in these lakes. Although I have no scientific data to prove it, I believe the stocked Grass Carp and our western Washington Largemouth bass are not compatible. Not that the carp eat the bass or the fry, they simply are too huge and inhabit the exact spot where Bass intend to bed. Again, this is simply my take on it based on what I see. I know I wouldn't attempt to lay a bunch of eggs where a 5 foot long monster was lurking. I would love to hear someone tell me I am wrong and missing something, but I have yet to hear a positive Bass report on either lake since 2011.
