Well the rivers are low, and we wanted to get mom out fishing with us, so we decided to go hit up one of our old favorite lakes that we haven't seen in a few years, Fish Lake. We went to target Perch, but didn't have any worms, and they were really sluggish on the jig bite. Dad managed a fish or two

Dad caught some line that someone broke off and when I started hauling it all in by hand (there was probably atleast 25-50 yards of the stuff) I felt a little tug. Got it to the boat and it was someones double powerbait rig with two trout on it! One was very little and the big hook was stuck in it's throat, the other was a nice 11"-12"er and it went on the stringer. They were both still alive and in good shape so they must not have been there too long, but the larger trouts mouth was cut from the line.

I'd brought some of my kokanee/trout stuff that I always have with me when lake fishing, so we decided to head out of the Cove and troll for some trout. Started with wedding rings and dick nites behind pop gear and sling blades. Got a few right off the bat on a red wedding ring behind pop gear, and then a fish slammed mom's pink wedding ring behind a pink precious metal sling blade. Got it in and it was a nice fish. Rest of the morning to late afternoon was pretty solid action. All the trout came on wedding rings of all colors behind both sling blades and pop gear. Seemed the magic speed was between 1.3-1.4 mph. We were tipping them with gulp maggots. And didn't get hit till we did. Largest were two 13" Rainbows. We even got a few more perch trolling for trout.

Well it got so hot in the middle of the day and the bite slowed down to almost quitting. We were all overheated so we pulled up in the shade on the bank, and I went for a very refreshing swim (with a very good shower and several scrubbings as soon as I got him as there's a really good algae bloom in the lake right now) Once cooled off we decided to go try for a few more perch so we had enough for a meal. They were nibbling on white jigs tipped with gulp maggots. Not aggressive at all, they would just suck the jig in and the only way we'd know we had them was when we would go to jig up again and feel them. We got enough for dinner, and packed up to head home. Traffic was horrible, but that's what we get for trying to drive HWY 2 on a Sunday night haha.

Got all the way over there and didn't try for Sockeye? Used to fish Fish lake often, haven't in years. Love that lake.

The funny part is, we'd completely forgotten about the Sockeye. Didn't realize it till it was too late :( Oh well, maybe next time, I really love Fish Lake so I'm not too torn up about it haha
