Another beautiful day to be out on the water.
Launche at about 8AM. Boated about 5 mins away and started casting along the shore. 5 mins into fishing and I get my first solid bite. I see it's a small SMB. I also see another 1 chasing it. In the net it goes. About 13-14". I think I'm onto something and work the area. Couldn't get another bite from the SMB. But I saw LOTS of fingerling LMB. About 1.5-3". At least they look like LMB to me because of the horizonal dark stripe.
I get to a point and I see more fingerlings. I also see perch and what I assume are small peamouths about 8-9". I use cranks around this area. I got a chase from a small LMB about 7" or so. A couple of nips from the perch. I start dragging a carolina rig around this area. I feel weight, but it's not fighting. It feels like I'm snagged. Then I feel it slowly coming to me. I get it near the water and it's a huge strip of tree bark, lol. Biggest thing so far today.
I bring out the trout rod and start catching some perch to keep me busy. These appear smaller than the ones I was seeing my last few outings.
Anyways I continue my bass hunt. Went to mid lake and keep trying. Nothing. Lost my carolina rig on something. Almost lost a crankbait on a branch in the water. It's starting to get hot with no wind.
So I powered away to catch a breeze. I ended up near the north end of the lake. A couple of casts in and my lure feels weird. I can feel my line dragging over a branch or tree. Then all of a sudden, I just felt weight. Almost like a snag. I set the hook and feel head shakes and zzzziiipppp goes my drag. Oh yeah. After a min of fight, I get it in the net. My biggest fish of the year so far. SMB 19" @ 4lb 1oz. Finally broke the 4lb barrier. I look inside it's mouth and I see a pincher arm of a crawfish sticking out of it's throat. I tried to take a pic of it, but the fish swallowed it before I could get a shot.
A couple of casts later and I got myself a squawfish. Landed a few more perch on a jerkbait and called it a day. Was getting a little too sunny for me, lol. Running low on liquids.
Water temps ranged from 73-76 degrees.
