With plenty of sunshine and temps in the lower 70’s it was a great day to be out fishing or just puttering around. I launched late, around 10:00am, and ran north of 520 to try that section of the Lake again. I must say that the cutt bite is officially on fire! Despite the previous night’s full moon, I hooked up with and released 3 fish in short order on three different lures with bait/scent. I picked up and released 4 more fish using a Brads Mini Cutplug sans scent/bait. Of these 7 fish, one was a rainbow and another was a small coho around 12” long that looked to have been netted and released recently. The pattern remains fish right off the bottom in 40’ to 70’ of water or at 45’ to 60’ in deeper water. My last cutt of the day looked to be in the 4lb range and when it hit I thought I had hooked into an early silver with the way it ran on me. After releasing that last cutt, I took some time to chase a few perch in a nearby bay. The perch were plentiful, but small in size. I didn’t manage any over 9” in length and kept a baker’s dozen to use as bait. As is typical this time of year, fish for perch just outside of the weedline and you should be into them in short order, if you aren’t move to a new location. There were two tallships out on the lake this afternoon simulating a sea battle, complete with cannon fire. The “battle” took place near Sandpoint and was a bit too far for a good picture from my location.
