Gort's report on his carp yesterday encouraged me to go back out and try for my first carp today, as I had intermittently all summer. Headed out to the rowing center, fished from the concrete pad right next to it. Just got some fancy european carp tackle in and put them to use. Started around 1 when it was still gray, and saw some jumps out 30 yds out, and was encouraged. But then as the afternoon rolled on the sun came out and didn't see any action, until around 4pm when I got my first bite. There was no mistaking that it was a carp as the line was screaming off the reel, going for a long run before it got tired out. Reeled it in and was glad that I had a net with me, though it gave a 2nd/3rd run when it saw the net, which was barely large enough to scoop it up. It was about 30" long and was in great condition. I had a hard time managing it for a good photo or weighing it, since it was still throwing head shakes on land, and sure was slippery. So glad that the summer hunt for carp is finally over!
