11/16/2012 5:23:00 PMThese type of jigs are called "slabs" in the south and are used extensively for stripers on Lk Texoma, Ok. where I lived for a period of time. It is one of the most phenomenal lakes I have ever fished and where I learned to use slabs. As mentioned above they look like salt water "Wilson Darts" and I did use these for stripers ( the crippled herring jig style works better due to it's size - wider and slower drop). I tip the jig with a strip of perch meat about 2" long and 1/2" wide - skin on to hold meat on hook. We started with 1/2 and 3/4 oz jigs but as the fish moved deeper went to 1 oz for better control and get it down there quicker. The one thing we found was that by using these lures we averaged much larger perch than dropshotting small jigs.
Predator - we are fishing mainly the east channel about 1/2 mile south of the Mercer Island bridge on the Mercer Is side. Put the finder on 4x zoom and scope between 45 to 60 ft until you find them on the bottom. They are schooled sometimes 10 to 15 ft thick but after a cold front are tight to the bottom. We are in a 17ft green Lund and I have no problem if you see us out there to pull up and chat.
