Got off work early, gave Pete a call, and met him at Lake Ballinger at 1:30 PM. Air temp was 48 degrees, just a breeze and some sprinkles of rain. Water temp was 50 degrees at 15', off the pier. Lake is very, very high... lots of water. I targeted Cutthroat, and used Nightcrawlers and did some spin casting with spoon-like lures. Pete went with marshmallows and worms, and the old standby, Power Eggs (red & chartreuse). Fifteen minutes in, Pete had bites on both worms and PB... about 2:00, he brought in the only fish of the day, a 13" beautifully colored Rainbow, on the PB. I do believe that Pete could catch a fish in my bathtub if I let him fish there! Never have ever seen a fisherman to match him! About the same time, we were joined on the pier by another fisherman, Mike. No bites the rest of the afternoon. Rain became serious about 3:00, and Pete and Mike both left. I continued to soak Nightcrawlers and finally put on Power Eggs myself, but no takers. Rain actually stopped about 3:30, and had a really nice late afternoon on the lake. Left about 4:15.
Lots of Holiday commitments the next few weekends, so not much opportunity for fishing... glad to get on the lake for a couple of hours... am usually still working at 4:00 in the afternoon. The worst day of fishing is far better than the best day of working!! PTL!
