Another decent day for crappie on Long Lake. The total was 22 crappie and 3 perch. The same spot as before but this time we had to work a lot harder for each bite. The fish were shallower and were not in a biting mood. Drop shotting with dark colored tubes and grubs worked best. We started off in a snow storm. I am sure that if anyone heard us heading down river, couldn't see us because the snow was coming down so hard, they had to say "what are those morons doing". The snow stopped quickly and we had two hours of calm wind. Then the rain started and continued for two hours till we called it quits with hypothermia.

Cool. No, seriously, COOL! Still a lot of fun fighting fish with these kinds of flakes rather than the skiers and such of summer. Nice fish!

Hi Mark
Thanks for the reports. I live out here in the Long lake area and have never "winter" fished for crappie. What is the typical structure/depth in winter for them? Do you ever target perch in winter? I have a boat with top and heater....warm, no hypothermia!! You guys are indeed tough.

Mark,
Was you guys going past the Felton area around noon (leaving)? I was in the blue Ranger waving back at you. The bass weren't cooperating. I had 3 hooked and all 3 came off. Not positive they were bass. I was out for 4 quick hours just to get out. Probably hit it again, weather permitting. Oh, nice catch by the way. Remember, the later you fish, the quicker Spring will get here !!! Nice report !!!!!

Scotti509: That was us you saw. We thought we were going to be the only knuckleheads out there. We were wondering if you had had any luck.

Downriggeral: We are actually fishing in the same locations we fish in early spring. The crappies and perch will be holding in these same areas before and after the drawdown. We have been working the same 75' stretch for the last month and based on the number of fish we are marking we haven't even put a dent in them.

Loving that "Cannon Ball Run" type look, of the guy driving the boat! Catching Crappie, this time of year? Awesome boys!!
