I was heading to JBLM to use the gym, but the fishing gear was in the trunk, so I decided to wet a line before working up a sweat. I walked out on the fishing dock by Northwest Adventure Center, tied a #14 treble hook on a 4 foot leader, baited it with a bit of yellow PowerBait and cast out into the cold fog. Before the bait reached tot bottom my rod tip began to dip. It was a very bright, 17 inch rainbow. He put up a good fight and the hook fell out of his jaw while he was in the net, so I let him go to call in his big brothers. Sadly, that was the only hit I had in the hour I was able to spend fishing before moving on to the weight room. I think the fish will bite, if you give it enough time. Key is using a small, sharp hook and a smaller bait than you would in the warm months.
