Got out finally to fish a couple hours with my daughter. We tried Island Lake in Mason county and it was a cool day for this side of the mountains. Other than the crisp air there was little wind and was cloudy.

We got to our spot. A WDFW boat launch area, which is the only public access to the lake. It was hard to cast as there are a few low hanging branches. Evidence of many failed attempts by others hung in the trees. I was able to reach and retrieve a nice float which I gave to my daughter.

We were only there about 5 minutes when my daughter caught her first of two fish. It was the smaller one. The second came about an hour later and was a nice 14 incher.

I myself only had one bite, but I wasn't fishing to hard as it was more about my daughter. I would say if we had a boat and or more time I am sure we would have done better.

Our bait of choice was Chartreuse power eggs and a Fluorescent red nugget. Set up was size 4 hook with a pinched barb on about a 3 foot leader, swivel, little bead and a 1/4 oz slip sinker. Both line and leader where 6 lb test.

We will be hitting this lake again real soon and hope to soon do it with a little boat.
