Did a little fishing this morning, hard not to after reading the posts from other guys on American Lake. I fished for 2 hours and got my limit (2 over 14''). 1 was a very thick 16 incher and the other was a somewhat slim 15 incher. I was using power eggs and 6 ft leader. Both fish caught were in about 45 ft of water. I find this interesting since most guys are saying the fish are holding in the shallows. I caught quit a few fish in December also using the same method and same depth of water. I was fishing off the dock this morning and not my boat so I dont know what the water temp was.
I had quit a bit of action besides the 2 fish I got to the dock I missed 3 other bites. One thing I will say is the quality of fish caught in the last 30 days has been wonderful all fish have had amazing colors and big strong looking fish.

Hey Mike have you had any luck trolling this time of year for them bows? and what would be a good go to bait if so ? should I troll extra slow or 1.5- 1.7 mph? thanks !

I have not trolled this year for the winter trout but last year I did fairly well. I make all my own stuff that I fish with and I have had the best luck using 2 red hooks, followed by six beads (usually some pink and some glow), finished off with a smile blade, and I usually use a 12 inch leader for trout. I hook this to the same dodgers that I would use for kokanee. Last year I used two dodgers hooked together and then the setup mentioned before and I got a really nice 24 inch Rainbow off the VA shore. I would troll the speeds mentioned and I usually use gulp maggots for everything. Pink and white for Kokanee or Green and white for trout. Scent is a huge thing too. So far this year and last year has been all garlic, years past it was shrimp. Hopefully this helps you out.

Mike great report..I do know that the trout fishing has slowed way down in my normal shallow water areas..so maybe I should try fishing in a little bit deeper water...I will try it on Fri and see what happens.

fishinjerry2000 the only reason I have been fishing is because I was reading your reports. I tried shallow and could not get anything. All fish in the last month I have caught have been deep. I did fish the JBLM dock the other day and got a nice 18 incher, but it did take a long time to get him to bite.

Great report! When you were out in 45ft water did you float the eggs 6ft under a float or 6ft off the bottom? I would like to get my boat out next decent weather day

I was floating off the bottom 6 ft using power eggs. I was fishing off my dock and casting to about 45 ft of water and bringing it in a couple cranks every couple of minutes. I was using yellow and pink power eggs, but I have gotten great reports that green is working better right now.
