My son and I went up to Rat Lake to check out the early ice and fishing conditions. We found 4" clear ice close to the shore so we dropped power bait into a few holes and waited and waited and waited for a tug on out lines. We spent about five hours out on the ice drilling holes and checking depth with our red neck depth finder, not one bite but plenty of opportunity to chat and catch up. The weather was no wind, high overcast and temps running in the mid 20's
