@ fowl_language: You should try fishing at the "First Narrows" (the necked-down area just southwest of where you were on Sunday). The water there is deeper, and the fish are forced to cruise by at mid-channel (between the two cliffs). I've always had good luck there fishing through the ice, and casting from the east shoreline when there is no ice. I use a 1/8-oz. or 1/4-oz. Kastmaster slab-jig (in a silver color), and it is jigged (twitched) upwards by flicking your wrist and quickly dropping the rod tip so that the line is slack and the jig "flutters" downwards. The fish grab the lure as it falls, and one feels it on the hook with the next lift (jig). You set the hook by standing up quickly from your ice fishing bucket seat. The twitches are about in 2-second intervals. The Kastmaster has a real nice throbbing motion on the way up, and the fluttering motion makes it effective. The rod tip is jigged upwards about 2 feet with each lift. One can jig it sideways in open water, and I like drift-fishing in a canoe by jigging it sideways as the wind pushes me down the lake. Look for the Kastmaster (orange package) at Wal-Mart and other popular Sporting Goods stores; they cost about $4 ea.
* If you fish Sprague Lake, try fishing the springs near "Catfish Charlie Island" along the northwest shoreline. It is a very small island with an abandoned shack built in the middle of it. The trout congregate around the warm springs that are near that island, but you also have to check for thinner ice because of that warmth. Good luck!

Thanks for the tips dluders, hopefully I can make my way down to the narrows this weekend or later this week, I'm hoping that this weather still leaves us some good ice for awhile yet!
I have a few of the kastmasters in the trolling box i'll try them through the ice never really thought about it.

I've caught my limit of 2 over 14" the last 3 weekends in a row at this lake. last weekend i got my season record 23" rainbow.

That's what I keep hearing about that's why it's always on my list of lakes to go to, I went one time before when I lived in Cheney but the ice wasn't ready then never went back until last weekend, hopefully somebody can tell me if the ice is good still, i'll probably just head up that way this weekend and find something to fish. This new warm weather front is really getting me worried about ice.

went out here again last weekend and got skunked. first time thats ever happened to me at this lake.

Maybe the late ice is making them move a little differently? Not too sure, how thick was the ice?

There was still a good 6" of ice. there was alot of people out there but I only saw 3 fish caught in the 4 hrs we spent out there.
