Short Report: Lots of trolling from west of the launch then looped back to the Island. No luck. Trolled the east end and at the same spot as yesterday I caught a small Kokanee.

Detailed Report: After leaving Cranberry I headed over to Campbell and had the lines in the water at 1130. Headed east keeping a save distance from shore trolling the Gold Dick Nite and a Fire Tiger pattern Needle fish on the two rods. Trolled up till I was across the lake from the last house on the south bank then headed toward it. Trolled about 500' off of south bank and headed straight to the south end of the island and over the "hole" and around to the north end. No takers so kicked the Minn kota in Speed 5 and booked it over to the west bank where I caught my Cutthroat yesterday (good move).
Threw both lines in the water on the SE corner of the lake and after 3-5 mins of trolling the Gold Dick Night drag takes a bit of line. Trolling motor off and fish to the boat. Now, I have never caught a Kokanee before nor did I know they were in this lake. After a quick Google search I think I found it. Now if i am wrong, please don't scold me and crush my dreams, just let me know. Thanks
Oh and BTW, the reason that lil guy took drag is because I keep them on the loose but safe side when trolling two up so I can hear one if I am looking at the other.

Do you fish the two "C's" often (Cranberry, Cambell)? Very much enjoy hearing reports from these lakes.

Well I will be now. I will be state side for about a year and plan on hitting the lakes up as much as I can. Every trip expect a report.

I'm no expert on fish species, but I would be willing to bet that it's a bow or cut-bow in the pic. Kokanee have a dark, bluish back, lacking spots. This one here is bright, but the black spots on the back scream bow to me. Would be nice if Campbell held some kokes, but I don't think the lake would support them very well. Campbell, from my experience, is only about 10'-15' deep in most spots, and a few spots that are 15'-20', and about 25' being the deepest I've seen. Just too shallow for them. The shallow depth is why all those weeds grow in there giving Campbell that dirty tea color. Trout fishing can be okay in here though, but I would stay by the island. On the south/south east side of the island there is a "cliff", about 25' that drops of into the water. It is pretty deep here, and this is where I've had a lot of luck for trout. I usually work this area, but this is usually in the summer, so they might be spread out right now. Campbell is not always a quantity fishery, but I have seen some monsters pulled out of here before, 5-8lbs, even a few bigger. Good luck out there.

See I was thinking that as well, but I have never seen a forked tail on a trout or cutthroat, plus There was no red under the gill plates.That is why I question what it really is. Now looking at other pictures of Kokanee I see that there are no spots on the back. I have no clue as to what this may be. The first thing I checked for was red on the "Throat" of the fish. More confused now then when I caught the little guy.

That looks like a juvenile king....???? Have no experience with this lake nor do i know where the inflow or outflow goes to or comes from but looks like a king to me..

The lake is pretty much land locked. There are marshes to the west of the lake but that is about it. No way a king can be in there unless some one planted it. Not a bad idea though.
