3/6/2013 9:36:00 AMUntil the water starts to warm up a bit and the thermocline develops, this is about what one can expect. An inconsistent bite based upon the weather conditions. For those of use who don't have much of a choice of when we can get on the water, we can only hope that the conditions are favorable when we get to the lake. Thanks for the report and continued good luck out there.

3/6/2013 9:47:00 AMI took my limit of 5 yesterday, all were 16 to 19 inch range. Just doing a batch thru the smoker, I don't like to freeze them. I'll go back to C&R until I run out in a couple of weeks (assuming I'll catch more). I'm still working the mid-lake points listed in my previous post.
Yes, inconsistent is the best way to describe the recent conditions. It's hit-or-miss. Half of this fishery is just showing up making a decent presentation, and the rest is up to the fish. Tight Lines!

3/8/2013 7:33:00 PMAll trout in Lake Washington and Sammamish are cutbows. The technical term is Introgression (genetic hybridization). The picture above is a good example of the variations one can expect in a small sample, every fish will be slightly different. This is the best short version of how the Seward Park Hatchery introduced rainbow trout in to this lake system, diluting the native cutty population for many decades (http://www.historylink.org/index.cfm?DisplayPage=output.cfm&file_id=3141):
A fish hatchery with 20 rearing ponds was built in 1935 as part of an effort to make Lake Washington a "fisherman’s paradise." By the 1940s, the hatchery was releasing 250,000 trout annually. Its negative impact on the natural ecology of the lake led to its closure in 1978.
