Well, today was a fun day. Took the opportunity to head on over to Roesiger to realize just how much I'd forgotten about trout and kokanee fishing! Who would have thought I'd struggle with the fish, with them rolling all round the boat and everything.
Well I wanted to get some of the rumored silvers hanging out in the lake, so I ignored all the trout on the finder as I motored out to some deeper water. My Pavati runs smooth and steady on the still water, plus it was very cofortable for Lady and I.
Marked a bunch of fish at 40 feet along the 60 foot edge over by the park, and had my first take there on a wedding ring and pop gear, vicious and of course it didn't stick and was gone by the time I got my rod out of the holder. This kept up all day. I had probably 7 or 8 chances on fish, but the ones that did stick fell off as I lifted them over the gunnel. Probably should bring a net next time. Oh well, it was a beautiful day out.
I did keep marking some very large looking fish right off the bottom at 40-70 feet that I'd like to find out what they are. Maybe sleeping largemouth? Carp? I'll investigate and let you know later. This is a beautiful lake!
I had the most takes in front of the park, and on the east side of the lake on the north end. As I came back in, a few boats were anchored up fishing for the freshly stocked planters and I saw a very nice triploid get caught. It was a great day for a day off, but now it's back to work on the rivers! Drop me a line if you'd like to get out and grab some steelhead, fishing on the Skookumchuck has been phenomenal! I couldn't help but put a picture of the nice fish we're catching. Some bright ones moving in.
