Cindy had the day off today, and as I did too we decided to give the Kokanee a try. We had some early AM appointments to complete before heading to the fishing hole. After finishing with the commitments we went to Wally world to pick up some more 3/0 Seps dodgers. While we were there, Cindy saw some tiny orange marshmallows made by Berkley and decided we needed to get some. OK, whatever. Anyway, we get on the water around noon and head up to Lakeside where I had marked fish yesterday.
As we near the area where I had picked up fish there were marks showing on the depth finder. Drop the bow mount and start the kicker motor. We wish! The Kicker has been flooding lately and chose now to flood out again. So the electric bow mount is put into service. While I was doing some magic on the kicker, Cindy was rigging up a dodger with an orange squidie and smile blade rigged with two hooks covered with shoepeg and the orange marshmallows, and getting her setup in the water. She dropped it down to 30 feet in 50 feet of water and before I could get a line in the water she has one jerking her rod. This one she loses as she is bringing it in but things are looking good. I finally get the kicker kicking and am in the water too. After Cindy gets several more hits and a few in the boat with me at Zero, I decide to give the Orange marshmallows a try. I start to get in on the action as soon as I do so. Go figure. We chased Kokanee from 20 feet depth down to the bottom in 60 feet of water. Seemed the fish were hanging in 45-60 feet of water today. We would mark a school and before we could get around to the spot again, the school would have been moved, so it was a challenge to stay on the fish. We finished our day around 6:00 with a two person limit, so it was worth all the effort. Cindy was one happy girl, I was pretty happy too. Mmmmmm, I think the Smoker will get a workout now. Sharp hooks and hungry fish

OK, I'll be the first to ask - if you targeted kokanee and both caught your limits, how does that only rate a "4"?!?!?! Just giving you a hard time. :-) Nice Catch!

LOL Fair question Mike. I like danm's answer for sure. It was a good day fishing, but not sure it was a "WOW" day as a rating #5 would be. :>)) By the time I got all the fish prepped for the brine, I felt pretty tired. But that's a great feeling.

The guides on Chelan rate the day a "5" when they only catch 6 fish. Must be that clear water and beautiful scenery! ... Loui - we still need to link up for some drop-shottin' for Lakers.....

I think I know what you mean. I've had days where I caught beautiful stringers and turned many fish loose, but had to work at it so hard that it didn't rate a 5. Your description sounds like that. Very nice catch!

You Guys are killing me with those nice Kokes! I live in Spokane and it's about 160 miles....a bit much for a "day" trip; rats will have to make it at least a two dayer. Thanks for the pics and report. AH

Thanks for the comment Lundegard, The guides are under pressure to provide a "5" trip for their clients every time out. Thank goodness all I have to I have to please is me (Cindy too, but thats easy as long as I take her fishing) LOL. I'm all set up and ready to learn the dropshotting technique. Got the recommended rod and reel set up. Have caught a few, but am in need of some serious tutoring. just let me know :>)

Hello eenakok , Just look at Mike's report and you can judge the worth of making a trip over. Keep watching the reports and be sure to ask any questions you may have. The Wa Lakers are great sources of information. Best of luck

Hey AH, I know it's tough reading such reports just out of a day trip range. I read the crappie reports from some of your local lakes and get the blues. But someday we'll make the trip and get into the action. Thanks for your comment

I gotta say, the good guides work very hard. They earn their money. When the wind comes up on Chelan it's a bugger. Loui, I do understand your rating. There are limits, and then there are LIMITS!

I'll second that Mike, I meant no disrespect for the guides of Lake Chelan by any means. It takes a special person to be a successfull guide on any water, and it is one career I would not be able to handle due to the difficulty of its nature. I've watched the guide boats out on Chelan in windy conditions before, and it is amazing the Magic (boat handling) they manage. All I can accomplish on a good day is "boat movement". LOL
