The weather kicked off the derby in Idahoan fashion, 45mph gusts with sideways rain and snow/hail and made for some interesting fishing. We camped at Mowry state park boat in site and made it out on the water by 5am each day. 6 fish weighed in Sat, 2 on Sunday and a mere 10lb took first place out of 160 some fisherman. We boated several small salmon but none over 26". The salmon are chasing bait in the 30's and up. VK bait holders, herring/sardine off boards with 1/2 ounce banana wieght and DR's at 30ft worked well for us. If you wish to put your salmon skills to the test, this would be the place. G'luck

The state record was caught here at 42lb.(land locked chinook) That was some time ago and a different strain has been planted since then that does not want to grow as fast but they are still here. From what I hear Chelan is a hard fishery for these guys as well. They just don't take the bait like a ocean run Salmon...

We boated 5 fish, those two were the biggest. We also replaced 4 thrashed herring/sardines from bites that didn't want to stick and changed bait often. When Wholesale Sports (sportsmans warehouse) went out of business they had bait 75% off so you can imagine how fast that went =) Most the anglers fished from Carlin Bay south to Harlow Point and I didn't hear much on the radio.. During the winter derby only one fish was turned in so this fishery is questionable for me at the moment. I wanted to guide here when I got my license but i'm not so sure anymore..
