We had a great time fishing Kokanee again this Saturday on Chelan! We started fishing about 6:30 in the morning and were surprised to find the lake just flat calm! They were calling for 29 mph gusts in the afternoon, so we worked hard to get fish while the gettin' was good! We pretty much covered the entire lower basin. We started fishing right off the Blue Roof Condos and when the bite slowed we went on the hunt. Found fish off Rocky Point, in the Trench, Minneapolis Beach, Mack Bar, and several different spots throughout the Mill Bay area. The lures that seem to be producing the most fish for us are the Orange and Pink Cha Cha Squidders by Macks Lure! The great thing about fishing squidders is that Macks Lure makes and sells all the components you need to create your own squidder rig. I tie up all my own rigs and customize them the do and look exactly what I want. And it can change from day to day! We caught fish from 40 feet below the surface clear down to 110 feet, but on average I would say the most productive depth was between 50 and 60 feet with a trolling speed between 1.2 and 1.4. I want to give a big thanks to Lance and Kevin for fishing with me this weekend! We had limits and were cleaning fish by noon.. and they even let me reel in a couple! I almost forgot how much fun these fish are on lightweight tackle!
After the guys headed home with 19lbs of Kokanee fillets I give my mom a call to give the afternoon bite a shot! She had pointed out earlier this week that I still haven't taken her fishing yet. We started fishing right off Wapato Point and headed torwards Rocky Point.. and now we had the predicted winds to deal with!! Our only option was to go with the wind direction which unfortunaly was pushing us between 1.5 and 2.5 mph. However, the fish didnt seem to care! By the time we passed Rocky she had boated 8 more beautiful Kokanee and we called it quits! What a day!! I still have weekends avaliable if anyone wants to get in on some of this great fishing for this years beautiful hard fighting run of Kokanee! (509) 630-8433
