The intent was to fish Lake Devereaux, but the wind was too bad, so we headed up to Haven Lake, where we faced the same issue. We took one last chance and hit Sandy Shore, which has been a good go-to lake in the past, but which I haven't fished much in the last year. Unlike the first 2 lakes in Mason County, here the wind wasn't blowing, but the sun wasn't shining either. It was much colder with a thick low cloud cover. There were about a dozen vehicles parked, which is close to maximum, but it seemed as if every boat had chosen a specific section of shore and anchored to bottom fish. Trolling up and down the lake was a breeze. Every 10 minutes or so, I'd get a hit on a modified Wooly Bugger, with or without a Gulp Nibble for scent. I tried just subsurface and several feet down and got bites at both depths. All rainbows were planters of the year (9.5" - 11"), but they looked really nice and were fighters. I let a few go, given I wasn't using 'bait' all the time. If you have kids, or know of a neighbor kid, now's the time to take them along to have a really good chance of getting them onto a fish or three.
