First day this year at my favorite lake - Williams since I hate wind. Started trolling with WollyBugger - sinking fly line. Got on the water at 3:30 in my float tube. Spent probably 1.5 hrs tooling around, some strikes but probably smaller fish, none held. Decided I wanted to catch some, went to trusty sign 11, grabbed my spinning rod and caught 4 in about 45-60 min. all planters but very nice size compared to past years. Started with rainbow powerbait which failed, switched to green and bammo. Trolled on way back with Bugger again, caught one quickly which I released and then just a few taps on the way back to the public access.
So, Williams is still good, perhaps not quite the quantity of previous years but looks like quality is improved. Other boats were doing similarly, slower than usual but good quality - didn't see any lunkers caught. I probably wasn't at the correct depth trolling or I was going too slow with my new tube.
