I had the day off on Monday and decided to fish a little dock in Medina. Went out around 5-6 o'clock and fished for about an hour. I remember as a kid (I'm 28) catching mostly 6"-12" trout from the shores of Lake Washington and not much else. Now a day it seems like a trout from shore is the exception not the rule. Apparently, this is because the water quality is now better and allows for more species to thrive? Or is it because so many fish have been introduced? Either way, i hate not catching trout anymore but the catch rate has definitely increased. I've caught mostly perch, some smallmouth and Squawfish/Pikeminnow. Last trout I caught from shore was probably 8 years ago. Anywho, today's fishing wasn't great but i did have one strike. The fish was BIG but for the lackluster fight it gave me I knew instantly it was no trout and was a Pikeminnow. Probably 17"-20" in length and real fat. The size of the ones you see hanging around Lake Chelan docks nowadays. I'm curious to know if anyone out there is still having any luck catching game fish from shore? A few year's back I saw a foreign guy using Cheese at Chism Beach and had about 2 large trout. That's about it. Any feedback helps since i don't get out on the boat much. Thanks! -Nick

dippydub,
People have been farily successful catching cuthroat from the slough (Samammish river between lake WA. and lake Samammish) Remember to check the regs carefully. It is selective gear, (baitless/barbless) You can also shore fish from the little island across from Husky stadium. (the old site of the Museum of history and industry) guys to OK for perch and small mouth off the docks at coulon park marina as well.

I've shore fished two times and both times hit rainbows down at Waverly Park. There is a large dock. We hit them on powerbait fished 3ft or so above a weight. Not many numbers, but some decent fish. You want to go to the end of the dock and cast parallel to shore so you are keeping in 15-20ft of water... If you cast straight off, I'm sure you may be able to pick up a cutty. Also, lots of perch in here - use worms for those. I'm sure there are bass as well.

The time of the year for productive shore fishing for trout in Lake Washington has passed. With the amount of sun and warmer water temps, the fish have retreated to the deeper sections of the lake. Best time to fish from shore for trout is in the late fall and winter months.

Thanks for the tips. I do love Kyaking through the slough so i'll have to bring my pole with me next time. I'll make sure to fish Waverly too and let you guys know how both work out.

I catch cutties all the time in log boom park with a worm under a bobber in the shallows at night. They're there, just gotta find em!

Looks like Mercer slough is only open for juvenile anglers (under 15). Anyone got a kid I can borrow? Lol

I found a deep dropoff @ Magnuson park, approx 60 feet deep that I've been fishing off the bottom with worms. Been out 25+ times in the middle of the day for a few hours and I've caught only a 6" bullhead and a nice 20" cutt.

Are you guys using anything to help float your worms off the bottom when you bottom fish? Marshmellow, etc?

I used a maybe 1/2" orange corkie to float my worm, the cutt I caught inhaled both. I found these little flourescent painted styrofoam balls the size of bb's, I put 3 of them on a size 6 hook with a worm and it floats it well.
