So I bought my wife a kayak and she wanted to take it out to Burke for a test ride. I brought my 12' aluminum along for the day, even though I have been repeatedly assured that Burke has been all fished out. It was slower than earlier this season but I still bagged two 13" in about 2 hrs and had lots of other bites. There were all sorts of risers at sundown as well as little tiny baby trout hopping out of the water.
Now, here's the kicker. I have fished this lake this year maybe 20 times already. I have seen a couple of the derby fish that have been pulled out and there were decent sized. However, yesterday, my step son latched onto one of the biggest trout that I have ever seen in my life. (I have seen the monsters at rocky ford and this one dwarfed them.) He was using his little kiddy pole to reel him in, the fish splashed us on the surface and took off with rooster tail and a length of snapped line.
From the size of this thing, I was thinking it may have been the trophy tagged fish from the derby. Does anybody know if all of the money fish have been turned in?
