Took my daughter to Meydenbauer Beach Park and brought along her fishing pole. Fish weren't biting so she got bored and went to the playground. I tossed the line, with a piece of nightcrawler on a small chartreuse jighead under a bobber, near the dock. Next thing I feel a strong tug and the drag (good thing I had changed the kiddie fishing reel with a pflueger microspin) is screaming. I am waiting the 4 pound line to snap any time. After a couple of runs I finally see the fish - a hog of a smallmouth. Bringing it out is still a challenge because surely the line or the pole would not allow me to lift it out. So I keep playing it for a couple of minutes until it gets tired enough so I can grab it by hand. Took a snap + some friendly folks took a snap then tossed the beauty back in.
