After remounting the main motor following the opening day derby on Lake Wilderness, I needed to be certain my install was water tight. After work I hitched up the boat and headed for Lake Meridian. It was after 1900 when I got there so I got in the water as quickly as possible, parked the rig, and fired up the motors. Thankfully there were no leaks and the motors spun like a top.

Just to test the motors I ran out to the middle of the lake and ran around a bit. I also wanted to test the kicker and I had thrown the kokanee poles (still rigged from our Chelan trip) into the boat on my way out so I figured what the heck and baited the poles to fish for a few moments as the sun headed for the horizon. I had left the riggers at home so I threw on about a .5 oz rubber core sinker on each poles and went with 60' - 70' set backs to get them to depth. Trolled between .9 and 1.3 and in 15 minutes or so had one drive-by, one hooked and long released, and one hooked and lost about 1/2 way to the boat. Used sling blade with spinner hoochie and gulp worm on one side and sling blade and wiggle hoochie with pink fire corn on the other. Fire corn rig hooked 2 of the 3.

Considering it was late and I didn't even plan to fish it was a nice way to spend the evening. Got a nice photo of Mt. Rainier as the sun was setting. For out on the lake I could see the ranger came to lock up the gates so I boogied back to the dock to get the boat out of the water.

Glad the boat is back in running order for lingcod fishing over the weekend!

I grew up on that lake and still have family in five houses there and the best rig I would use for them fish is a half ounce swiveled weight(cresent with the chain swivel)/3' leader-small spin-n-glow/bead/size 6 octo hook with a pinched crawler splashed with anise. I swear by that rig. no down rigger need just creep along the lake fast enough to spin the spin-n-glow out about 30 yards back. Spin-n-glow works best with metalic blade. give it a try you'll love it!

I have some spin-n-glo rigs already made up from my Wallowa Lake trip. I'll give 'em a go.

Thanks for the tip!
