Perch are up where I was in the south end of the lake. They are schooled up and haven't spawned, much to my surprise. They're looking fat and almost ready to pop. The girls are full of eggs and oozing them out when grabbed. They seem to be common in about 4-6 feet of water. I only fished them for about 15 minutes with my daughter, so it's kind of hard to give it a star rating, but I caught a few more nice ones earlier by myself, and I have no doubt that if one was only targeting perch they could collect quite a mess. These fish are incredibly healthy and seem bigger than I remember seeing them over the last many years. Most were in the 8" plus range, with a couple around 10" and the one in the picture unmeasured but definitely over 10". Water in the lake was up perhaps 8" from the day before, and the temperature at the surface had dropped by a surprising 8-10 degrees.

Congrats - you no doubt had a fantastic dinner - yellow perch are about as tasty as anything that swims. Plus they are terribly fun for the little ones once you find them (as your picture shows)!!

Agreed on both fronts. They're great eating but these went back in the water as I had a fish fry the night before with a smallmouth, 3 crappie, a perch, and part of a decent pike. Fried in butter and coated with cornmeal, flour, and some spices, I would be hard pressed to tell the difference between the 4 species in taste, though thickness of fillet makes a difference. Hard to beat perch, though, but with them so full of eggs, I thought I'd let them have their fun and look to grab some dinner at a later date!
