Last day of a week's vacation... got in some wonderful fishing through the week, no reason to believe the end would be any different. Friend Pete had limited at Green Lake in four hours on Friday, pulling in two Trips, one of 16" and one of 18". Met him at the southwest shoreline at 5:30 AM and were fishing shortly thereafter. Air temp was 52 degrees at the outset, water temp was 66 degrees at the shoreline. Cloudy, but virtually no breeze, the lake a flat calm. Saw lots of fish splashing on the surface early, some obviously the Trips that were planted three days earlier. Started fishing with the usual, Power Eggs.
The early morning was slow, no bite until shortly after 7:00. my line went taunt and I reeled in a beautiful 12" 'Bow (hatchery nugget PE). Neither of us had a hit until about 10:00, when I reeled in a 11" 'er (chartreuse PE). Pete then caught a couple, and I finished off with another. All fish the newly planted Rainbows of 11" to 12". Saw a few other fishermen having varying degrees of success, but basically a slow day, with none of the bigger fish brought in while we were at the lake. Left for home and a few "hunny do" projects at 12:30.
Had another birthday this week, continuing to get older... hopefully a bit wiser. Fishing allows for a time of reflection and evaluation of life and time, that few other pursuits afford. I love my time spent on the water... every moment of it is precious to me... irregardless of any fish I might happen to catch while there. As observed by Sparse Grey Hackle, "The trout do not rise in the cemetery, so you better do your fishing while you are still able." PTL!
